Dear Copyright Violators [7.25.2006]
It has come to our attention that a number of websites are offering compiled copies of MacroQuest 2, some for a fee. While this is not, in itself, a copyright violation, most of the distributions do not follow the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), which MacroQuest 2 is covered by. The GPL lays out terms for copying, distribution and modification of the software. First, ALL distributions of the software are required to include an unmodified copy of the GPL. Second, if any modifications are made to GPL source code, and then compiled into a distribution, the source modifications are required to be distributed as well, with the modified files clearly indicating that changes were made, and the date of the changes. Third, any commercial (e.g. for money) binary distribution must either a) include the source code (including any modifications) with the distribution or b) send a WRITTEN offer to customers/downloaders for the source code. Please feel free to notify us of any web site offering a distribution of our open source software that does not comply with these terms, and feel free to notify the web site yourself, particularly if you like the sites in question.

That being said, (psycotic) and other violators, please visit the GNU GPL page to read about how you can become legal. If you want to avoid the legal mumbo jumbo and cut to the chase, the important stuff is also explained in the GPL FAQ (see the "Distribution of programs released under the GPL" section).

WinEQ 2.0 [11.18.2004]
WinEQ has long since been rewritten to support other games and brand new features. WinEQ 2.0 currently supports Dark Age of Camelot, EverQuest, EverQuest II, World of Warcraft and Warcraft III. We have just added an exciting new feature: Video Capture. It's no secret that video capture applications already exist, but our aim with this new feature is to bring the possibility of video capture to a wider audience. Video capture shouldn't just be for people with gigantic hard drives -- I have gigantic hard drives, but I rarely have enough free space to capture much video with other applications, and I cant stand when programs forcibly slow my game to the speed of the video. Our system is designed to let you capture the size and quality of video you want, an d allows ways of using less disk space. We also encode the video with a fairly popular codec, rather than trying to produce our own codec. While sound is not currently available, we plan on adding the option very soon.

Welcome to MacroQuest2.com [9.1.2004]
This new server is many times faster than sourceforge, and we will be keeping MacroQuest under the GPL as always. I converted all of the old links to use the new site, but there might be some stragglers that still point to the old site.

I will be updating the donation process so that donations always include a message board username. I will also debate requiring you to sign up on the forums before downloading (it's not going to change MQ2's networkless auth system, nor will it be required of all MQ2 users... just if you want to download it).

Be Warned [7.13.2004]
Some poser is offering a supposedly precompiled MacroQuest2. Actually, I dont think he knows what compiling is. Mister "Zdorf@hotmail.com" has placed two copies of a trojan inside his download in place of the actual MacroQuest2.exe that is placed in the real MacroQuest downloads. Be aware that the real MacroQuest2.exe is less than 50k in size, while the virus he is using weighs in at over 300k in size. Additionally, there are no compiled DLLs in his download, which would be required for anyone to actually download and use a precompiled MacroQuest2. "MacroQuest normally does NOT allow precompiled binaries, only nice people like me bother to share." <-- indeed. Also, he should learn how to spell "responsible." Have fun, and as always... dont trust idiots. - Lax

VIP Forums Available [5.3.2004]
Show your appreciation to the MacroQuest developers, and you not only get thanked but also receive a token of our appreciation for your appreciation.

Take a flame-proof break from the wankers that take without giving and then complain about it. VIP forums are open for people who donate a non-trivial sum to one or more developers (the definition of trivial is at our discretion. donations of a penny do not make you VIP, but the average donation of $10 is perfectly acceptable), or to those that devote time to the project as we do (we will come to you if we think you are a VIP, please dont beg or we might end up banning you instead). VIP requests will receive higher priority. If you have previously donated to the project or a developer and do not see the VIP section of the forums, please PM or email me (include your paypal email, the date you donated, the email you donated to, and the approximate amount).

To send a donation to a specific MQ developer, or to have split between active MQ developers (evenly or by recent work, you decide), find what you are looking for at this link for now http://www.macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8. I will get a donation information page up here from the main page soon.

Update: The "Donate" link on the side menu now takes you to the main donate page which is much prettier than the forum post

MQ2Data Phase 1 Begins [3.29.2004]
The system mentioned in the 3.27.2004 news is being phased in starting NOW. This system will break all current macros, custom user interfaces that use MQ2 extensions, and plugins that extend the MQ2Parm system. Be aware that if you use any of the above, you will need to make sure they get updated as the system is phased in. During phase 2, which will start in the next week or two (whenever people seem to be getting the hang of MQ2Data and have been switching over), the MQ2Parm system will still be there but disabled by default. This will be your last-minute wakeup call to get switched over -- you will need to modify a switch in the source code to keep using the MQ2Parm system. During phase 3, the MQ2Parm system will be removed from the source and no longer supported. For information about the 3 phases I just described, see this thread. For the MQ2Data system reference, see this thread. -Lax and the MQ2 devs

MQ2 Lacks of News [3.27.2004]
The main page had no new news this year, so how about a quick update on MQ2. We've been hard at work rewriting existing stuff and writing new stuff. The in-game map has been optimized and given some sweet new features like being able to right-click on a spawn to target it. EQ's keyboard bind system has been built into MQ2 and quake-ified -- there is now .cfg file support, you can use /bind to set any EQ or MQ2 bind key, and you can make your own custom binds using /custombind. The method of doing things in game by simulating actual key presses or mouse clicks is in the process of disappearing for the most part. /keypress will execute a bound command rather than simulating the key being pressed. /notify and /itemnotify will cause the effect of mouse buttons being used on windows or items.

Currently I am working on breaking nearly every existing macro and plenty of plugins by rewriting the "$parm" system. The new system is object-oriented and much faster than the old system. The end result will be a much faster, more robust, more extensible, and easier (even though it is more complex) system for MQ2ers to work with.

Precompiled Binaries... [11.20.2003]
It is against the express wishes of the MacroQuest Developers and the general populace to release a precompiled binary of MacroQuest or MacroQuest2, or any of their components. Anyone found doing so will be considered 'persona non grata', and will be immediately removed from these or any future forums, and will be denied all support to the best of our abilities. -The Devs

Irc room moved [9.07.2003]
Our irc room #macroquest has moved to irc.ipdn.org you can login with your browser right here. -L124RD

New design [8.31.2003]
As you can see the website has been completely redesigned :). I've also provided an alternative stylesheet. If you'd like me to cook up another stylesheet (look) or want to make other commentary please do so in this thread. -tuxracer
